More Companies Realize the Benefits of Hiring People with Disabilities

“And if the fit is right, hiring a person with a disability can be a rewarding endeavor for a company and its workers,”  said Hannah Poturalski in her article, Hiring a person with a disability can make ‘high morale contagious’, found in the Dayton Business Journal. Throughout this article the author highlights the benefits for employers to hire people with disabilities.  Hannah Poturalski interviewed Teri Shirk, vice president for Goodwill, who referred to hiring people with disabilities, “They don’t often miss work and they are very committed to it. They are darn good employees and they come every day. Just be open to the idea and see them as the whole person and not that barrier.” Shirk also stated that her employees who have a disability often bring high morale to the workplace, “Once (they) get in, they have a great work ethic and high morale and that is contagious.”  It is encouraging to see employers are appreciating and realizing the benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
